Abstract

The demand for water boots continues to increase along with the expansion of work sectors exposed to harsh environmental conditions. The use of rotary dual injection molding machines to increase production capacity introduces challenges related to a large number of process parameters and extended setup time, which contribute to product defects. This study aims to optimize injection machine parameters to achieve a robust process that consistently produces high-quality water boots. The Taguchi robust design method was applied using a Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) approach. The study involved identifying quality characteristics, control factors, and noise factors, followed by experimental design using orthogonal arrays. Experiments were conducted across two production shifts with different operating conditions. The results indicate that the proposed optimal parameter settings increased the SNR value up to 21.52 dB for both shifts and significantly reduced the fraction of defective products compared to the initial condition. The optimized configuration is practical and can be directly implemented in the manufacturing process to reduce setup time and improve product quality stability.
